The Exira-EHK 5th grade class created a Happy Valentine's Day craft for the Exira Care Center residents (their Grand Pals). Senior TAG student, Tyler Petersen, is the Youth Leadership Club sponsor who plans their monthly crafts.
Two HS TAG students, Katie Andersen and Ella Petersen, made Valentine's Cards for each of the Elk Horn Salem Home residents. "I would like to take the opportunity to thank these HS TAG students and 5th grade class with their amazing service project to bring a little joy during Covid pandemic with the Valentine's Day crafts!", expressed Lisa Dreier, HS TAG teacher.

What's Happening at Exira-EHK Elementary!!!! Well, they had a fun day on Monday with the announcement of their One School, One Book. Here is some information about it:
"We are excited to announce the start of our fifth installment of One School One Book program that began Monday! We have had some exciting titles in the past with learning more about Ivan the real life gorilla, traveling to Antartica to learn about the penguins from Mr. Poppers, realized that all giants aren't scary in The BFG, and oh, where do we start with last years, How to Eat Fried Worms?! That one was A LOT of fun!!
This year's book will be a flashback for any parents that remember from your childhood that sweet little mutt named Benji!! Benji is always up for an adventure and this time, we will go along with him! Each Benji on the Road book includes a bookmark with the reading schedule. We will spend 10 days reading 10 chapters, only reading on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights. That leaves Friday and the weekend to get caught up if you get behind.
We will once again have daily questions over the previous nights reading. Throughout the program, students will have the opportunity to win prizes, learn about the real dogs that played Benji, participate in dog activities, and have a dog party with a movie at the end of our reading. It will be "pawsome"!!!!!
Each family will receive a copy of Benji on the Road as a gift from the school. We usually ask for donations, but due to the crazy year that we have been through, we are giving each family a book so that no one has to worry about funding. If you would still like to donate for corresponding activities and prizes, you may still do so, but do not feel obligated.
One School One Book enables families to read together at home and the opportunity for your children to talk about what they are reading with their friends and teachers. Everyone -- students, parents, teachers, and administrative staff - will be participating, thus creating a community of readers. By reading this story together, your child will take pride in knowing and anticipating the details of the story.
Our wish is that your child will enjoy this book as much as you might have when you were a child, or enjoy it together for the very first time. We know that it will be a "pawsitive" experience for everyone!!!!"
Here are some pictures from Monday's "reveal"!!! Keep it up Spartans!!!
What's Happening at Exira-EHK? Yesterday our HS students in foods class had a cupcake competition! They called it "Cupcake Wars" just like the TV show! Hey! At least our future is learning how to bake! Keep it up Spartans!!!
The Exira-EHK CSD will NOT have school on Monday, February 15, 2021.
What's been happening at Exira-EHK you ask? Well, this year we have a new opportunity for our 6th grade students! They get to participate in a class called Social Emotional Wellbeing. Check out some of our Spartans working hard in the class. Here is a little bit about the class:
In Social Emotional Wellbeing, 6th grade students learn how to develop healthy habits to help them be successful here at school and beyond the classroom. We do activities that help them grow in their self-awareness and in healthy relationship skills. This can be learning ways to handle strong emotions such as anger to what it means to have a growth mindset. Our goal is for them to have tools to help them with the different things that life throws at them in healthy and successful ways.
Keep up the great work Spartans!!!!!
